Textile and Paper Conservator, SEU Freeze Project

Matt R. Dutton

Matt Greetings.

My name is Matt Dutton, and I am currently involved in a biotechnology project that will change the way we preserve native artifacts.  Gone are the days when preserving meant poisioning or permanently making artifacts unusable by aboriginal populations.  Today we flash freeze textiles that can be used in tomorrow’s ceremonies.  Our’s is a green project, DNA research inspired and sample freezing is offered by grant to all comers.  The grant program is sponsoring my trip into the desert of Southwestern New Mexico to see and visit curators of ancient civilization museums and restorations.  While my sabbatical is originally planned to last a month, I plan to take as long as I need to convince the records keepers of our safe and reasonable remedies.

Matt
